Siyabonga Mphuthi, a grade 11 learner at Edenglen High School, started developing a love for rugby after playing the sport in grade 8. Siyabonga’s primary school did not offer rugby as a sport but once he got to high school, he decided to sign up and play. At first, he did not take it very seriously and it was more for fun than anything else was. Throughout his first rugby season, Siyabonga fell in love with the game and wanted to continue playing the sport and take it more seriously.
Siyabonga joined the Wasps rugby club and this allowed him to try out for the Golden Lions U/16 IPT team. Hard Work and dedication allowed him to make the team. Siyabonga said: ‘’He is grateful for being given the opportunity to be part of the team and he believes he is now able to showcase his talents at a provincial level.”’
Siyabonga thanks the amazing coaches and team members at Edenglen High school for the motivation and support through the years. Representing the school is such an honour for him.
