On 9 October, ten of our top performing EGD and Physical Science learners in Grade 11, together with Ms Vink attended the 4th Annual SAA Youth Career Summit.

Aimed at sparking conversation around the country’s skills requirements and opportunities in aviation, the event highlighted the wide array of career options available to youth within the aviation industry in general.

Delegates and students were given unique insights into a number of professional aviation disciplines such as engineering, flight operations, logistics, catering, aircraft maintenance, aviation medicine, and aviation law providing them with first-hand knowledge of the skills required to run an international airline business.

“The Golden Generation”, this was the theme for Edenglen High’s matric farewell for 2019. On the 21 September 2019, Matric learners and staff arrived at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg where the farewell was held. Birchwood’s Serengeti hall was set up with black and gold décor creating a lovely ambiance for the evening ahead.

Many of the learners arrived in extravagant cars, lavish dresses and suits. Mr. Chalklen and Mrs. Lanyoh were in charge of the evening as they are the Grade 12’s head of grade for 2019.S Speeches were made by the grade heads, which then kicked off the evening with delicious food supplied by Birchwood. Once dinner was eaten and the formalities over with, the Grade 12 learners and a handful of Edenglen High staff members followed onto the dance for after it was opened by previous head perfects and deputies.

Edenglen High Grade 12 learners all looked amazing and were on their best behavior. We hope that all the matrics that attended the farewell, had an unforgettable evening.

Mr Vorster, a physical science teacher at Edenglen High is making science fun with a bi weekly science club that is held for Edenglen High School learners who want to learn more about science.

On Thursday 1 August 2019, the Edenglen High Science club went on an excursion to Clover.

The Science club, along with Mr Vorster, arrived at the Clover visitor’s center at 12:30. After a photograph of the group, the science club was ushered to the auditorium. They displayed three short movies about the job opportunities at Clover, how the Clover beverages are packaged and how the beverages are made. The tour ended with the students tasting a few of Clover’s beverages. Surprisingly the lactose free milk was very tasty.  The students had a wonderful time and were reluctant to leave. 

On Wednesday 31 July 2019 Mr Pelser and Ms Vink took 22 willing Edenglen High School learners on an outreach to St. Laurence Haven in Roodepoort.

The learners and teachers raised funds in order to buy cleaning supplies and toiletries, which were donated, to the Haven.

Mr. Dempsey donated sport equipment, which we used on our fun day out.

The boys played soccer and rugby, and the girls all sang songs, danced and braided each other’s hair. The learners were very eager to help and make it a memorable day with chips and a juice in hand.

We are blessed to have the platform where we can reach out to our communities and the surrounding areas. Together with Eden Angels, the RCL committee and our amazing sponsors, we were in the privileged position to give to others and have fun while doing some charity work.
